THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF OUR SAVIOUR ON THE CROSS
S4C (1 x 90 minutes: 7 x 15 minutes)

In this international co-production, Aled Jones presents a performance of Haydn’s Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross, conducted by Jordi Savall with Le Concert des Nations. Performed in its original setting of the Oratorio de la Santa Cueva in Cádiz, Andalucía, the work was commissioned to portray the Passion of Christ. Haydn regarded it as one of his greatest compositions, and it established the composer’s fame throughout Europe. This timely production coincides with the bi-cententary of Haydn’s death in 2009.
